What are the warranty terms for both the carpet/pad and the installation?
It is always a good idea to know up front what is required to maintain your warranties and the appropriate steps if an issue should occur.
Will a professional installer come to my home to calculate how much flooring will be required?
An installer will determine the quantity, direction, number of seams, location of seams, and how to minimize waste.
Is your installer bonded and insured?
Anyone that comes into your home to perform work should be bonded and insured. This will protect both the installer and yourself if there are any issues during the installation.
Will the installer move furniture, or do I need to hire a third-party?
Verify if the installer will move the majority of your furniture or if you’ll need to hire a third-party for oversized furniture and appliances. Most installers will move furniture, tear out old carpet, and take the old carpet to the dump for a small fee.
What type of space and equipment will the installers need access to?
The installation team will need to use your electricity to power their tools as well as an area to work.
Can you provide references or examples of your work?
Sometimes the best way to rate a company’s performance is by talking to their customers or seeing reviews on their website or social media pages. There are many independent installers that own their installation companies and they are also the technicians so pride of ownership transcends to exeeding expecations.
How long will the job take?
Let’s face it; your installation is going to render your rooms unusable until the job is complete. It is always best to get a time frame for the installation from your installer before the project begins. The good news is that most carpet installations only take 1 – 2 days until instant satisfaction.
Will my doors have enough clearance after the new carpet is installed?
If your new carpet is thicker, your doors will have to be trimmed before they can be reinstalled. This will be your responsibility and if you are not comfortable with this sort of work, you may need to have a carpenter on hand to make the adjustments and rehang your doors.
Are my subfloors in good shape?
If your subfloor is not level or is damaged this can result in installation delays. Some installers can make the necessary repairs prior to installation; however, if the damage is extensive you may need to hire a carpenter.
